Proverbs chapter 2 reminds us that wisdom does not come from nowhere, but must be sought diligently, like searching for silver and treasure. When people are founded on the fear of the Lord, God gives knowledge and understanding, protecting the ways of the upright. Listen attentively to wisdom, and focus intently on intelligence;

We call for wisdom and courage, we plead for intelligence.

To seek her is like seeking silver; to search for her is like searching for hidden treasures.

You will then understand the fear of the Lord and come to know God.

For the Lord gives wisdom; knowledge and understanding come from his mouth.

He preserves true wisdom for the upright and serves as a shield for those who behave in good manners.

To preserve the way of the just and to protect the way of the godly.

You will also understand benevolence, justice, righteousness, and all good ways.

Wisdom will enter your heart, and your soul will find beauty in knowledge.

Strategy will protect you, and wisdom will preserve you.

I will save you from evil paths (the path of evil people) and from those who speak falsehoods.

Those people abandon the path of righteousness and walk the path of darkness.

They delight in doing evil and enjoy the eccentricities of wicked people.

Their roads are winding, their paths are secluded.

Wisdom will save you from the adulteress, that glib-tongued woman.

She abandoned her childhood spouse and forgot God's covenant.

Her home was plunged into ruin, and her path led to the underworld.

Everyone who goes to her will not return, nor will they find the way to life.

Wisdom will enable you to follow the ways of the virtuous and keep the path of the righteous.

The upright will dwell in the earth, and the perfect will remain on the earth.

Only the wicked will be eliminated, and the treacherous will be uprooted.
