Proverbs 7-10: Avoiding the Temptation of an Adulteress, Following the Voice of Wisdom, Choosing the Path of Life, and the Comparison between the Righteous and the Wicked

  • Chapter 7: Use vivid pictures to warn people of the temptation of adultery and remind people to stay away from the snare of sin.

  • Chapter 8: Wisdom is personified, declaring that it existed before the creation of the world, and inviting people to follow it to obtain life and God's grace.

  • Chapter 9:Wisdom and folly each set a feast, calling on people to make a choice; the fear of the Lord is the beginning of wisdom.

  • Chapter 10: Begins to include Solomon's collection of proverbs, using a large number of contrasting sentences to reveal the fate of the righteous and the wicked, the difference between diligence and laziness, and the consequences of humility and pride.

These four chapters together paint a clear spiritual picture:Immorality leads to death, wisdom brings life; foolishness leads to destruction, the righteous are blessed. They are not only moral reminders, but also spiritual signposts, guiding us to make the right choice between light and darkness.

Proverbs 7

My son, keep my words and keep my commandments in your heart.
Keep my commandments and live; guard my laws as the apple of your eye.
Bind them on your fingers; write them on the tablet of your heart.
Say to wisdom, "You are my sister," and call understanding your relative.
He will keep you away from the adulteress and the foreign woman with smooth words.
I have looked out from the window of my house, through the lattice,
I saw among the simple, among the young men, a young man without understanding,
As he passed by the street, he approached the corner of the whore's alley, toward the road that led to her house.
At dusk, or evening, or midnight, or in darkness,
And behold, a woman came to meet him, having the attire of a prostitute and a deceitful heart.
This woman is loud and unruly, and cannot stay at home.
Sometimes they are in the streets, sometimes in wide places, or crouching at the entrances of alleys.
He seized the young man, kissed him, and said to him shamelessly:
“My peace offerings are with me; today I have fulfilled my vow.
Therefore I came out to meet you, earnestly seeking your face, and by chance I found you.
I have made my bed with embroidered rugs and figured cloths of Egyptian thread.
And they scented my bed with myrrh, aloes, and cassia.
Come, let us feast on love until the morning; let us love and rejoice together.
Because my husband is not at home, he is away on a long journey.
He will hold the silver bag in his hand and will not return home until the full moon."
The adulteress seduced him with many flattering words and forced him to follow her with her flattering lips.
Immediately the young man followed her, like an ox to the slaughter, or like a fool in chains to punishment;
Until the arrow pierces his liver, like a bird darting into a snare, he does not know that he is losing his life.
Now therefore, my sons, listen to me, and give ear to the words of my mouth.
Do not let your heart turn to the ways of an adulteress, or follow her paths.
For many were wounded and felled by her, and many were killed by her.
Her house is in the way to Hades, going down to the chambers of death.

Proverbs 8

Does not wisdom call out, and does not understanding speak?
She stood at the crossroads on top of a high place beside the road
Shouting at the gate, at the gate hole, at the opening of the gate
I call you, O people, to speak out to the world
You foolish ones, you must understand. You wise ones, you must understand.
Listen, for I have beautiful things to say, and I will open my mouth to speak what is right.
My mouth speaks truth, my lips hate evil
The words of my mouth are righteous, not crooked or perverse.
Those who are wise see it as upright, and those who are knowledgeable see it as just.
You should accept my teachings rather than silver, and prefer knowledge to gold.
For wisdom is more beautiful than pearls, and all that is desirable cannot compare with it.
My wisdom dwells in prudence and has found knowledge and counsel.
The fear of the Lord is to hate evil. I hate pride and arrogance, the evil way, and a perverse mouth.
I have counsel and true knowledge. I am wise and capable.
The emperor lends me his throne, the king lends me justice
Princes and leaders, all judges in the world, rule through me.
Those who love me also love those who seek me and they will find me.
Are not riches and honor within me? Lasting wealth and righteousness are also within me.
My fruit is better than gold, better than fine gold, and my yield is above choice silver
I walk in the ways of righteousness and in the paths of justice
I will give wealth to those who love me and fill their treasuries
At the beginning of the Lord's creation, before He created all things, I was there.
I was established from eternity, from the beginning, before the world was.
There is no abyss, no spring of water, I was born
Before the great mountains were established, before the small hills existed, I was born.
Before the Lord had created the earth and the fields and the dust of the world, I had given birth to
He established the heavens, and I was there; He drew a circle on the face of the deep.
He made the heavens firm above and established the springs of the deep below
He set boundaries for the sea so that the waters would not go beyond his command and laid the foundations of the earth.
At that time I was with him as a craftsman, and he delighted me every day, always rejoicing before him.
Rejoice in the habitable place he has prepared for men and delight in living among men
Now, my sons, listen to me, for those who keep my ways are blessed.
Listen to the teachings and gain wisdom, don't reject it
Blessed is the man who listens to me and waits at my doorposts every day.
For whoever finds me finds life and obtains favor from the Lord
Those who sin against me harm their own lives, and those who hate me love death.

Proverbs 9

Wisdom builds a house by hewing seven pillars
Slaughtering animals, mixing fine wine, and setting up a feast
She sent her maid out and cried out from the highest places in the city.
Who is the foolish one? Let him turn here and say to the ignorant one
Come, eat my bread and drink my wine.
You fools, abandon your foolishness and live and walk in the way of light.
Those who rebuke the scornful will be insulted, and those who rebuke the wicked will be defiled.
Do not rebuke a scorner, or he will hate you. Rebuke a wise man, and he will love you.
Teach a wise man, and he will become even wiser. Instruct a righteous man, and he will increase his learning.
The fear of the Lord is the beginning of wisdom, and the knowledge of the Holy One is understanding.
Through me your days will be multiplied and your years will be added
If you are wise, it will benefit you. If you are disrespectful, you will have to bear the consequences alone.
The foolish woman cries out that she is foolish and knows nothing.
She sat at the door of her house, on a high seat in the city
Calling the passers-by is the one who goes straight on the road
Who is the foolish one? Let him turn here and say to the ignorant one
Stolen water is sweet, secretly eaten cakes are good
But people don't know that there are ghosts with her, her guests are in the depths of the underworld

Proverbs 10

Proverbs of Solomon A wise son brings joy to his father, but a foolish son brings grief to his mother
Unrighteous wealth is of no use; only righteousness can save us from death.
The Lord will not let the righteous suffer hunger, but He will push away the desires of the wicked.
The lazy will suffer poverty, but the diligent will prosper.
The wise ones gather in summer, the shameful ones sleep in harvest.
Blessings come to the head of the righteous, but the mouth of the wicked harbors harm.
The righteous will be praised, but the name of the wicked will decay.
The wise in heart will be commanded, but the foolish in mouth will fall
Those who walk the straight path walk with confidence, while those who take the crooked path will be exposed.
Those who show their eyes cause sorrow, but those who speak foolishly will fall.
The mouth of the righteous is a fountain of life, and the mouth of the wicked is covered with violence.
Hate can stir up disputes, love can cover all faults
The wise have wisdom in their mouths, but the foolish bear the rod on their backs.
The wise store up knowledge, but the mouth of fools brings ruin
The wealth of the rich is his strong city, and the poverty of the poor is his ruin.
The labor of the righteous leads to life, but the income of the foolish leads to death.
He who keeps instruction is in the way of life, but he who disregards reproof is lost.
Those who harbor resentment have lying lips, and those who speak slander are fools.
Too much talk is bound to cause mistakes. Lips are wise.
The tongue of the righteous is like precious silver, but the heart of the wicked is worth little.
The mouth of the righteous instructs many, but fools die for their lack of knowledge
The blessing of the Lord makes rich and adds no sorrow
A fool finds it a joke to do evil, but a righteous man finds joy in wisdom.
What the wicked fear will come upon him, and what the righteous desire will be granted.
When the storm is over, the wicked are no more, but the foundation of the righteous is everlasting.
A lazy man is like vinegar to his teeth and smoke to his eyes.
The fear of the Lord prolongs one's days, but the years of the wicked are shortened
The hope of the righteous will be joyful, but the expectation of the wicked will perish.
The way of the Lord is a refuge for the upright, but a ruin for those who work evil.
The righteous will never be removed, and the wicked will not live in the land.
The mouth of the righteous breeds wisdom, but the perverse tongue will be cut off.
The lips of the righteous please others, but the mouth of the wicked speaks perverse things.
